Welcome to SciCo, the meeting point for scientists working full time in any way of science communication. Share your experiences, express your concerns or make yourself known to colleagues. Meet other scientists who once decided that one of the most fascinating aspects of science is to get everyone to grasp its beauty and the excitement of understanding the world around us.

Ten Dimensions Explained

Following up the idea of dimensions here's an impressive clip explaining 10 dimensions while making sense of time travel, parallel universes, alternate timelines and superstrings none the less! This was brought to my attention by one the students of our on-line science communication course at UWE Bristol (Thanks Lara!)

The Fourth Dimension (App for IPhone & IPad)

Ever struggled to explain what it means to consider extra dimensions? We all used once or other the idea that we can´t visualise the fourth dimension but just imagine that 3D shapes could be considered shadows of four dimensional figures, just as (our regular) 2D shadows are of three dimensional objects. We also have probably seen the faces of the audience as a reaction to this, ranging from nonplussed to nodding faces, but always with the feeling that the explanation didn´t really stick.

This app is a great example of how to use the interactive potential of this medium to explain complex concepts in a hands-on way and in a manner that allows users to tailor the time spent on each step to their own pace.

The app is available from http://fourthdimensionapp.com/

Dance your PhD

Whether you like the idea or not, turning a piece of research into a song or a choreography is a great exercise of expressing complex concepts in a storified and visual way.

This Is What We Don’t Know About The Universe by Caleb Scharf

Well, the title says it all. It's an essential and enjoyable read to realise the limitations of our knowledge.

Riding Light by Alphonse Swineheart

It´s the International Year of Light and this mesmerising video shows how slow actually light is! Just enjoy and appreciate the vast distances in the universe by experiencing in real time how long it takes light at 300.000 km/s to travel just a tiniy tiny distance....
